Dupont Manual vs. Jeffersontown

Friday night I traveled to Louisville to go to the Dupont Manual - Jeffersontown basketball game and help with the National City Trophy Tour. The trophy tour takes the state championship trophy around Kentucky to different high schools in order to promote the National City KHSAA Sweet Sixteen Tournament, as well as the $1,000 scholarship that National City gives away to one high school athelete. It was really fun to get to see everyone's reaction to the HUGE trophy! Another thing that made this game unique was the fact that Jeffersontown High School won the state tournament last year and one of their players was actually on the poster we use to promote the trophy tour. That got them even more excited to see us (mainly the trophy!) at their game. The coaches and players kept making comments that they were going to take that trophy home in a few weeks. One assistant coach even said, we could go ahead and take that off your hands now to save you the trouble of bringing it to the tournament. He was joking of course, but the team looked great against the rams and will have a very good chance in the upcoming championship. We talked to a sophomore Manual player before the game who said that he was excited and not too nervous. He said there would probably be more students at that basketball game than any other game that year. He also said that the televised game was his second to play in and that it did not add any pressure to him or to his teammates. They were ready to get out there and put up a hard fight against the reigning state champs. Unfortunately, from tip-off Jeffersontown dominated the court. They pulled ahead right away and maintained the lead throughout the game. The rams continued to fight the chargers throughout the game, which ended with a score of 67-56 and a loss for Manual. However, it was a valiant effort against such a good team. I don't know if it was because we were at Dupont Manual's home court or because I just really like an upset, but I was really pulling for the rams and wished it would have ended differently. Despite the loss, it was a fun and entertaining night. I don't think I have been to a high school basketball game since I was in high school. It brought back a lot of memories and it was a lot of fun to see the fans get into the game, which included a lot of paint!
